Customer of mine wants me to install solar spot lights in his landscaped mulch bed out front. He also has his business sign in the mulch bed. He says there is no way to get power out there for the lights. Does there exist a powerful solar spot light that I can install to light up his sign at night?

There is a solar spot light, though I can't remember at this time, who makes it. The one thing that your customer should know is that the solar lights are really pretty bad. A solar panel on the light charges a small battery in the fixture. With any re-chargable battery, each time they are re-charged, the quality goes down. These fixtures slowly just go down to nothing. If there is a street light close by, it will probably drown out any light put out by the fixture as well. Do you know why a wire can't be run to this area? Is it a sidewalk or driveway? These things can be over come. You can water jet under a sidewalk with very little difficulty and I have removed expansion joints in driveway, laid my line in the joint and replaced the joint, to get accross driveways. If he is set on the solar, suggest he buy several. He can use 2 or 3 and change them out in a couple of months.

Thank you for the reply. Some good ideas ...I will look into other means of getting power to the loction. But I am still interested in getting a solar powered floodlight for the meantime.

Are the solar lights really that bad. I have not used them for anything other than a decorative lamp, and you are right, they don't do much more than glow.

Not that they are bad. They just don't do the job. Solars are fime if you just want to mark and area. They don't put out enough lumins to do much illuminating.
