what are the advantages and disadvantages of the solid shaft or the flex shaft?Other than the obvious is it worth the money to get the solid shaft? My dealer sells them for about 50 dollars more. Are all stihl prices pretty much set by stihl?M y dealer says they are and you can't find to much on the net about parts or maint.

I think it was 65hoss that told me in another related thread that if you buy the flex shaft, you can buy a solid shaft for around $20 and put it on the FS80, saving 30$.

That is what my dealer told me if I wanted to save a few bucks. Check to verify before you buy the 80. You need the solid shaft if you want to use attachments. The hedge trimmer attachment is awesome. Well worth the money. Makes trimming bushes easier. You get to stand back and see the entire picture as you work.
