What is the best way for the solo guy to go? I'm trying to figure my cost per hour for 2013 so I an update my rate. I'm a solo operator with summer help for now.

Do you take an hourly wage and less profit( say $20 hr and 15% profit) or do you figure profit as you salary($0/hr and 40% profit)?

i pay myself hourly much easier for me to figure out operation costs as well as budgeting my money so that i don't have to use company money for personal use. JMO probably works just as good the other way.

Me and dad are on salary. Not quite a solo op but I'm not sure how you would split up hours with all the work done from home, the road, and the phone

for me it really puts it in perspective to me just how many hours do occur in this business that may otherwise go unaccounted for. Even now sitting on lawn site its time.

Salary here as well, it workes out better for me because of all the work I do from home especially in winter, I don't have to clock in or out while running to the fridge or when I stop to check sportscenter.
