Someone explain this???

    the fs83 powerhead was made for stihl by redmax in 2002-2003. my understanding is stihl could not meet epa regulations so they worked out a deal with redmax. i have a fs83 and still use it as an dedicated edger (attatchment).

    That's because it is a Redmax engine. I think they did that about 4-5 years ago. They needed an engine that was CARB compliant, so they bought some from Redmax. We sold about 10 of them when they were available.

    Okay I just thought stihl put a redmax cover on a stihl engine. Is it a good combo having a redmax engine on a stihl trimmer?

    the fs83 was a real nice weedeater, tough and dependable. i tried a redmax weedeater several years later and was very disappointed with it. i do like redmax backpacks though.......
