Sorry... B & S again

    Sorry I haven't posted back. I was so frustrated with it I don't blame my friend for just going out and buying another one.

    I tryed to remove the flywheel using some of the methods mentioned (without a flywheel puller or gear puller...maybe I need to invest in one) but I haven't been successful. Here is a stupid question... Do I need to remove the nut from the top of the flywheel. I looked at a pick that Bob posted and the nut is still there. I know what you all are saying... what a neophyte. Well, it is true... I am a novice. I have learned alot by taking the thing apart. I do appeciate all of your advice.

    yeppers, ya gotta remove the nut, thats whats holding it on.

    If you see a nut it's probably a Techumseh. If you see a clutch assembly then it's a Briggs. Post all the numbers you have on the engine. Have you yet to check to see if the blade is on it? Make sure it's on and tight. Were all trying to help just run out and check and post back....
     
  5. That tool shown in the diagram is a B&S specialty tool. You can get a wheel puller at about any tool or auto parts store for $10 or less. They work on flywheels, pulleys, gears, stuck on blade adapters.

    Here is the way I learned, put a screwdriver under each side of the flywheel and pry up while a second person takes a hammer and hits the top or the cranksharft. Also, back the nut to the end of the crank to protect the threads.

    Ok... I got the nut off. There is a light brass colored collar or cup that surrounds the nut. This is where the pull crank get its grip. Confused yet? LOL. When I pulled it off there was a tiny name printed on the top of fly wheel it strarted with TEC but I couldn't read the rest of it (sweat kept getting in my eyes). It didn't look like Techumseh but I could be wrong.

    Where do I look for the Engine numbers... I looked but all I saw was oily dirt.

    I really do appreciate everything ya'll do to help me out. I really do!!! I just hope one day I can return the favor. payup
    Thanks again for your help. My wife is getting really tired of the lawnmower in pieces in the garage... so am I. :D

    Several people have suggested this to me. I tried doing this by myself... thank God no one was there to watch this.:laugh: I will get a neighbor to help me out on this.

  10. Model # is stamped on the shroud-the piece that hold the starter rope.
