I know my older gravely use tapered roller bearings in cast iron housings. But what do the other manafactures use?? Any body care to share what type of spindle bearings the other manafactures use?? And any idea which design is better??

    Thanks guys!! snapper

Also, roller bearing or tapered bearing, Aluminum housing or cast iron housing.

The automotive industry switched from ball bearings to tapered roller bearings way back in the fifties. For this reason I believe tapered roller bearings are better.

The main advantage to tapered roller bearings is preload endplay and they with stand higher side loading.
