My mom is going to buy about 50 yards of mulch in bulk and have it delivered. whats an average rate per yard to have it spread?
It will be dumped in one spot, and she has a BIG yard. she lives 3 hours away, and when I lived there (with a chipper) I took care of it. Heck, I'll pay for the labor, I'm just too busy to go do it.

I charge $35 per manhour to spread the mulch, and I would have me and one other person doing the job. I could get it done in one 8 hour day. Thats $560 for one day.

We charge 60.00 per yard installed and may include edging. That's including material and labor. However, we would also charge 35.00 per man hour if we had to hump it off the ground. So two men would be 70.00 an hour. On really large jobs like this one needing 50 yards. we often subcontract to a mulch blower company who charges us 34.00 per yard installed. I would try and locate someone to blow it in if you have that type of company in your area. :blob4:

and one man with a rake to spread. 4-5 hours. (assuming accessability). I'd charge $350 for that.

I'll never hump mulch again, especially 50 yards.

Read the above posts carefully the best answer is already there.

I agree humping mulch is a pain in the @#$ and the back. But many of us don't have a mulch blowing company close enough to us to make it a cost effective. I think the closest contractor Whit a blower tom me is over 2 -3 hrs away. The cost of his travel time would greatly jack the price of the install up beyond my profit margin. For 50yds. I know I would have to hump it all by my lonesome or sub the mulch out to someone else. At any rate my charge per man hour would fall between $45-$60 depending on the size. Smaller jobs higher rate bigger jobs lower rate.

  7. How do you locate a company to blow in the mulch.

I have a homeowners assc. that beeds 225 yards of mulch.

I was thinking 2 bobcats and about 5 guys can get it done in one day.

But I heard it is $35/yd to have a blown in
that is still $35/yd profit for me.

I am on the southside (suburbs) of chicago, IL

Please e-mail or call me with a company if you know of one

I do not know how you guys are making a living at 50 per yard installed!!! I sure hope that dosnt include edging and prepwork like weeding. We get 80-100 a yard installed depending on the difficulty of the job.

We get $59 per yard dark installed. We buy 3-5 trailer truck loads a year. We pay $15 to $16 per yard for black mulch and resell for the $59 per yard. Our profit after labor & fuel is around $35.00 per yard we install around 300 yards a year so how do we make money at $59 per yard, easy, ALOT!!!!!!
