I am in lawn maintenance and it ticks me off to pull up and see the system running. They know which day I cut. Can I turn the valve off while the system is running without hurting anything??

Yes if it is city water and no booster pumps or from a house well

No if it is a separate irrigation well, lake pump, or if there is a booster pump.

Why not get those folks to reschedule their timer so watering is completed before 7 or 8 am or does not water on the day you mow?

  3. As I also do maintenance, If I find a clients who's timer is operating the system during business hours, I will talk to them and tell why it's better to water between the hours of 2 am thru 8.

Explain a couple points to your clinet:
    • dryer the grass, better cut you will do
    • cleaner job that is done
    • not good to cut "very" wet grass
Then if that doesn't work, charge the client more explaining that it cause extra wear and tear on you and your equipment.

    Harold,
I would of answered straight off saying yes, you can shut off the valve. I didn't even think about pumps and stuff. Every system that I service or build is tapped off of municpal water lines.
