When spreading mulch, what is a good rate to go by if charging by the sq yard? I don't need to include getting the mulch in this rate, just taking it from a pile to the beds a spreading it.

We mostly double the cost the homeowner would pay (up to 10yds)say they would pay 45. We would pay 35 and charge 90. More than 10 yds. Say 20yds go down to 80. 30 yds 75. 50 yds 70. If u have a loader and the man power u can make great $ we did 100 yds at one of our estates this year for 65 per yd 3500$ in 6 hrs with cleanup. Me and 3 guys loader. 1700 for mulch delivered 300 labor after all said and done 1500 profit, minus fuel wear & tear ect.. Good day. Picked up a few small mulch jobs too!BIG STEVE B CT STRENGTH WSL

So your price includes the mulch? Is that what you mean by what the homeowner would pay, if he paid for the mulch?

Don't know what it is in your area, but we usually get 50-60 per yard to install. This is NOT including the price of the mulch.

I'm trying to break down my rate to apply to the way you want it to break down but my math is fuzzy today. I pay $32 per yard for hardwood and charge $72-$80 per yard bought, delivered and installed. So if all i had to do was install it I would take away $32 per yard and another $5-$8 for the hassle of picking it up and delivery so I would guess I would charge somewhere between $32 and $40 per cubic yard to install only. Most likely $35 per yard since it would be infinitely easier than having to pick it up and deliver it myself. I hope that helps.

$100.00 per yard installed. Subtract your cost of the mulch from that number to get the number you are looking for.

I charge the the price that the mulch yard would charge to deliver and ad my labor rate per hr to the price and keep it separate.
    so it work like this
the mulch co charges 27 a yard for hardwood mulch i see what they would charge to deliver lets say there around 125 for 3 yards thats what I charge the customer then I add my labor rate which is 45 and hr from the time I pull up to the job till done.
