I have a Gravely Pro 50 belt drive. The right brake is fine, but the left brake squeals really bad with the slightest touch. The high-pitched noise drives me nuts even through my ear plugs. I am sure it drives the customers/neighbors nuts as well. I have tried adjusting the tension, but it does not help. Is there a lining on the band that is worn out? Thanks for your help.

Yes there is supposed to be a lining inside the band, If it's worn out replace it. If it is still in good shape de-glaze it with some sand paper and see if that doesn't quiet it down.
