I just bought a scag ssz-22cv with a 22hp kohler that i have to go pick up, he says the heads overheated and warped. How expensive is it to fix this? does anybody have another motor to sell me or just heads? why would they overheat to begin with?

how does he know the heads are warped? if they are only warped then you can resurface them.

I am thinking of dumping this ssz scag. I was told all it needed was new heads but as I start messing with this it was left outside with the heads off so the cylinder walls are lightly rusted and heads are missing the lifters and valves. This motor needs a complete rebuild.

well now with the lifters and valves gone you probably do need some new heads. I personally don't think if the heads are not flat that some wet dry paper on some plate glass wouldn't hurt just to save some money.
