Would it make any sense for me to fertilize an established lawn with starter fertilizer to promote root growth? Wouldn't this strengthen the grass and make it more drought resistant?

If your P and K levels are low, it would make sense to use a starter fertilizer like 20-20-20.

If you're looking at drought resistance, the phos. isn't as important as the potassium. Spend the money more dedicated to a higher potash than the phos..

Do a soil test and fertilize according to the test results.
