starting a supply yard

    i was thinking about starting another business in a couple years or maybe sooner. thinking of do and landscape supply yard what are some start up cost and stuff how do you go about getting the material that you need to get started. i have a landscaping and lawn care company and just want to expand and offer more.

    This is the same information that I am looking for!! Does anybody have insite to the start up costs or any advise?

    Well, You've got to figure in the following

    Place of business (rent, buy, lease)
    Storage bins, unless you're going to to just make big piles. That would be messy.
    A Loader
    Dump trucks for deliveries... The bigger the dump truck, the more product you'll
    move..
    A smaller truck for customers that can't accept a full truck because of space limitations..

    Scales for product that sells by weight..

    employee's to drive trucks and make deliveries.. you cant run the place as one person.

    Find wholesalers...

    Theres a lot to it... and often times its a huge headache with extreme overhead...

    we have two loaders, 5 dump trucks (3 five yard, one 15 yard landscape box truck, and 1 Kennworth that will haul 12 yards of rock)

    When you get into wall block, look for a forklift...

    thats just the basics that i can think of off hand..
