Get the bare bones for the business...self propelled 21" mower, cheap weed whip and blower, and obviously your vehicle to get to your jobs. Commercial insurance is fairly cheap to get into...this is one I wouldn't skip on. Most of the time you won't need it, but when you do you'll be happy you got it.

I would also advertise as much as you can afford. Maybe to start with a couple grand if you can. If not, print fliers off your computer, it might not be the most professional but even if you get one job from it then it's worth your effort. Look on craigslist, take those crappy jobs at first because those are the jobs that most won't want, but they'll help you to re-invest into your business and move on from there.

On advertising...a website is more significant than fliers/postcards, etc. Namely because a lot of people will search for a lawn service on the internet before you'll get your postcard/flier, etc. in their hands.

Good luck, keep us updated on your progress. PM me if you want advice.

I would ask to be paid at end of job or have a check mailed. Just be careful and if u are worried about being ripped off ask to be paid cash at end of job.
