Please excuse me if you've seen this on here, but my computer is a piece of crap and i have no other explantion. My question is does anyone elese hae any problems with stenier tractors in the summer months while the mower decks are on? My buddy at the hospital that uses these swears by the power brooms and some of the other attchments but curses the mower attchment. He says everything works pretty well, But the mower seems to lose a lot of power in almost any length of grass. Any comments?

Have no idea what he talking about and I have steiners since 96. What engine to deck size is he using, that would be the only thing that would make a diff if he had a 72" deck on with a 20 hp onan

He needs more motor or less deck for the grass he is cutting.

I have never had a problem with mine. I do not get into real long grass that often, but always had plenty of power.

I have ran the new version, the VXD4200 Ventrac, and there is no power loss with a mower deck, or even the powerrake. A fellow LCO uses an older Steiner to mow each week, every week with no power issues. See Mac and Cantoo's posts as well:waving:

I'm not sure on the size of the motor, and they run the 72" deck with the roller bar on the rear of it. Also they cut the grass on the second notch from the top which is one notch shy from the deck being all the way up. The supervisors like this because it chokes out the weeds. In turn it makes the lawn grow real fast, and when its cut it really doesn't look good. We just got pounded with snow there, and the plows and brooms on them ran like champs! The mower attachment is the only complaint I hear about them.

Check to see if its the small engine, but short of that, the deck seems to be the problem. Check to see if there is any drag on the spindles/bearings, that could be robbing power. I have never had a power issue, and that's all I run, is the 72" decks.

I'll have to look into it on thursday when I swing by their shop. They seem like the types that will buy things before or without looking into them to see what the manufacture offers for motor sizes or anything like that.

I have one of the older 430 max with the 60in deck and 20hp Onan. The mower really pulls the engine down, just not enough power. I use the same deck on my 4200 Ventrac 31 hp turbo diesel and dont have a bit of trouble. I also pulled off one set of blades and now just run singles. The mower seems to give a better cut with singles than it did with the doubles.
