I have a FS 85 trimmer that want to change over to a Kombi type unit. What would be involved to change out the shaft to the Kombi style "half" shaft?? Instead of buying a new kombi i could use this unit for all my purposes and still have 2 FS90 trimmers used for trimming.

I change shafts around on motor units all the time. It should just be a matter of getting the short shaft (both outside shaft and inside drive shaft) that comes with the Kombi unit and then a simple change out. Stihl parts are not cheap and must be ordered from a Stihl dealer. My guess is that this could cost half as much as a new unit.

Another option would be to buy a new Kombi motor unit, switch the shafts --trimmer shaft to new motor unit, short shaft to old motor unit, then you have a "new"trimmer and an "older" Kombi unit.
