I would like to landscape the area around my front door and am looking for suggestions. The only thing I require is that the plants be rather compact. I would like to use a dwarf jap maple somewhere, and symmetry is not important. I would like a natural look. I don't care for the large bushy plantings that are currently there (the bush by the front door is already gone and the white pyracantha is soon to go as well), nor do I like boxwoods. I would like a variety of plants, and will probably play with some landscape lighting. Maybe some grazing lights for the brick side of the house and some spots on a small water feature. I would like to create a brick seating area between the drive and the house. I will look for more pics, and can take current pics tonight.

Any hardscaping suggestions? Sorry, I guess I didn't ask that in the original post.
