I was thinking about hiring someone for this coming summer to do yard work. Would it be better to pay this person cash or check (without taking any taxes out) as a outside contract laborer? i thought you could pay up to $ 600 or $ 800 before you had to get a 1099 from them, does any of this sound right to you? Does or has anyone done something similar to this? if so what is the pro's and con's of it.

Its $600 and you give them the 1099, not them giving it to you.
