I bought an attachment for my redmax trimmer. It's a round metal blade with chain links (like on a chainsaw) used for thick brush. I can't get the head off my trimmer. Is there a certain tool to use?

On my Shindaiwa trimmer heads, there is a little hole in the metal ring, right above the trimmer head. There is another hole underneath the ring. You have to line them up. Stick a scratch awl in there and twist the head to the right. The threads are opposite-right loosens.

Is this method pretty universal with all trimmers?

use a nail, small screw driver, or anything ridged. Stick it in the hole in the bearing dust cap to lock it and spin your head off (your trimmer head, that is!) its pretty much universal for most manufacturers.
