Maybe some one out there can help me. Have a 2001 toyota tocoma 2.7 liter 2WD 55K. The take to dealer light come on yesterday. Is there any thing I can do or do I really have to take it to the dealer? Thanks

you can use a diagnostic tester on it, it will give you the trouble code, like an obdII or something like that, not sure what they cost exactly,

Most auto parts chain stores (ex: Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone) will actually diagnose it for you.

If you just hit a certain mileage point like 30,000 miles or so, it may be an automatic trip mechanism for some type of service they recommend.:)

I second^, sometimes cheap, sometimes not. Let 'em read first before you take it to the dealer.

Your light actually says "take to dealer"?

Just take it to the above mentioned stores, they can scan for fault codes. OBDII is kinda nice because you can diagnose issues pretty easy, but at the same time they're a real bear for little issues.

Thanks for your reply. Called a dealer and he suggested I might make sure gas cap tight, and maybe disconnect battery for a minute and reconnect, I did and so far the light is off.
