How do I take a mower drive shaft universal apart?
Those pins should have circle clamps in them, once you get the tool to remove them, the pins should fall right out. Or with a little help from a dowel and hammer.
you can also press them out with a large bench vise and large socket. sometimes your auto parts store will install a joint for a small fee - usually under $10 labor plus joint cost.
there are u-joint presses that look like a C clamp that works good or a hydaulic press. be carefull not to drop a needle in the cap while installing the new joint. packing the cap with heavy grease will help keep them in place while installing. can be tricky on the first few.
like khouse said sockets and vise.
Remove retaining springs, put socket smaller than cap on one cap and socket a larger diameter than cap on other side. Use vise to slowly press cap out.
I did it, thanks for your help!
