Just my luck, the main A/C unit in our house broke down as of this morning. Gotta see about getting a new motor for it tomorrow. In the mean time, I'll just hang out in my bedroom with this single-room A/C unit that's in the window.

Modesto is south/south east of Sacramento, right in the middle of the valley. I'm not sure of the distance in miles from here to Sacramento, but it's about a hour and 15 minute drive on the freeway. Also about the same distance from here to San Francisco.

I bet HVAC guys are printing money right now. I was given a week to ten days just to do the biannual checkup.

I know it... The department store that my g/f works at is constantly having the HVAC guys over there working on their A/C system. More days than not, their cooling system is down, and it's like a sweat shop in there from what I understand.

When they have major component failures like that is the time I start looking for a new heat pump. Unlike lawnmowers, where you're only seeing changes in features from year to year, heat pumps and A/C units are making huge strides in efficiency in just a few years. Usually the cost vs. electricity savings is paying off new units in under 5 years. I have a Mitsubishi Mr Slim cooling 1,000 sq ft and it's SEER is 20.5. The unit it replaced was 11 years old and had a SEER of 8.0. I saw an instant mass savings in electricity.

Update: 105 projected for tomorrow, and 106 on Wednesday. This week just keeps getting better and better! On a lighter note, today didn't quite reach 99. I think our daytime high was 95 or 96. Not much of a difference really, but I'll take what "relief" I can get.

I have to wonder how many LCOs lives have been spared due to the drought.

Since there's nothing to cut, I've had next to nothing to do over the last week, sparing me from having to work in the brutal heat.
I can't tell you how many clients have told me "My previous lawn guy had a heart attack and had to quit."

    Gotta be careful out there.

Heat or no heat, we're still out doing an average of 11 accounts Monday through Thursday. Rumor has it I've got a cleanup job lined up for Friday that's supposedly going to take 6 hours. Still suppose to be over 100 on Friday too.
