With older mowers you move the blades, not the deck, and thus the blades always have nice good suction and the grass looks great. but with my toro riding z my deck goes up and the gap inbetween the deck and grass reduces the suction, thus like was last year, when i had to keep the grass high in order to keep it green, y lines did not come out very well.

simple flat stock around the deck would bring back the suction. what do you think?

If its material I think it would suck it in and if its hard i think it would scalp the ground .... Not sure try it

i would make it out of metal, although there are stiff rubbers that would probably work better, but the idea is to get it set at about the same height as a non adjustable deck would sit to get the same suction.

if you have any old tires laying around you can make it out of them pretty easy, thats what we have for stripe kits on our 997 ztrak and walk behind

Mo, could you post a pic? I'm not following you. As a redneck, I love to hear any and all uses for old tires.

Does your spindles have spacers on the top of the blades To get more vacuum your blades needs to be higher in yours deck if it has the spacers remove them might need shorter blade bolts to do this
This shot in the dark I don't and never owned or seen a Toro ZTR

basically they cut the tread into basically 72" stirp and bolted it onto the back side of the mower deck, hanging down however far you want it too, it stripes really good and it helps alot for the suction during fall clean up when we are picking up the debris the leaf vac didn't pick up, I've switched companies so i cant really get a picture

You can go to TSC and buy a strip of conveyor belt rubber that comes about 5-6" wide and 6'-10' long and then bolt that to the skirt of you deck.

Instead of that monkey motion though, have you tried using higher lift blades?

I did this on my Everide. Used 4" baler belt from TCS, works great.
