This may be a crazy idea for a truck but...

this is something i have always imagined. try to picture this.

have a vehicle similar to a NPR(or a 1 ton pick up) with a flat bed that goes inside of the rear wheels. kind of like a cross between a truck and a open trailer. the truck could even be front wheel drive.

the bed would be the same height as a standard open trailer. the bed could be about 11' or long enough to fit a 36" a 48" walk behind and a rider on. could build a little multi level system and have the 36" above the deck of the walkbehind.

no need to ever pull a trailer and it would be nice and close to the ground.

what do you think? would something like this ever be possible?

It would be possible, but not very practical IMHO. If the bed was inside the rear wheels it could only be around 5 feet wide which is a waste of available space. You would need a bed 20 feet long to get the same square footage as a 12 foot long bed that was full width. With a low profile beavertail bed the deck could be over the rear wheels, a full 8 1/2 feet wide and yet still reasonably low to the ground.

a little over 5' wide is all u would really need. a 60" would fit on there great with the shoot up. i run a 54". i would have no need for it to be 8 1/2 wide.

Wanna do it cheaper? Use a front wheel drive car. Olds Tornado, old Cadillac, lots of cheap cars available.

Already been dun look in Hemmings mag you can find these occasionaly built to haul show cars. Most all a chevy trucks with caddy front wheel drive trannys that have been beefed up. I thought about going that route then decided not to because the trucks are so hard to find. When I lived outside of texarkana texas a local towing company used several of these trucks for hauling fwd cars. I know the rear is set up with air bags so it will drop and then ramps are pulled out and even the lowest profile cars can roll up without a problem.
