Just picked up a new turfco unit. Can anyone tell me what they think or know how long it will take realistically take to slit seed a 16k lawn making crossing passes? Turfco says 30k per hour for one pass. So a little over an hour with no breaks for double pass.. If I send a guy I am sure it will be a 2 hrs stop start to finish. Me maybe 1.5hrs? How about pricing? We usually get 25-30$ per k to core aerate and overseed. But this will take much more time and effort.. Any thoughts? Thanks..

I base timing on the slowest or the longest time it will take, not the hastiest... I base pricing that time on the quality of the job,,, along with some kind of upsell... I also do not aerate 1 lawn at a time... the machine needs to be loaded, hauled, unloaded, reloaded then cleaned at the end of the day... there is another hour that should be spread over as many lawns as possible in one day...

True, overhead needs to be counted. I was just curious about the real time to slit seed 16k..

We charge $90.00 per 1000 to slit seed. I use the bigger lawn solutions units. We also use 10 to 12 lbs of seed per k for the best results.

So 900 for a 10k yard. Wow people pay that? There is no way people would pay that here.

Yes they pay it. I'm the one doing it. If they want it done properly people will pay. I also live in an area that in not affected by the ups and downs of the economy.

What are you doing for the $90 per k? Are you doing the mowing prep? Starter Fert? I live in a great area but I think $90 would be a tough sell here... I need to look at my numbers for the day out and figure my rates out..How many pounds of seed are you guys using when slit seeding? 3-4 per k per pass?

We charge $90 per k to slit seed. We use 8 to 12 pounds per k for the best results. Double pass sometimes I go over the areas 3 times depending on what condition the lawn is in.
