One of my biggest disappointments with the Toro Z is where the hour meter is located... So today I decided to fix that problem.

And for the steps that I took for anyone interested:

    1) Take the hour meter out of the stock position along with the bracket

    2) Place the bracket where you want to the new hour meter location to be and trace along the inside of it.

    3) Make 4 spots to drill a hole on the 4 corners.

    4) Tape it off to avoid damage to the sticker

    5) Drill 4 holes on the 4 corners without going over the line you drew
    [IMG]

    6) Start cutting with a dremel. Be careful to not go over your line.

    7) Cut it all the way out
    [IMG]

    8) Start to file the sides down until you get the hour meter fitting in the position you want.

    9) Take the tape off and clean up the edges. Place the hour meter in the location, secure the bracket and connect it back up.

And your finished. Pretty easy. Took me about an hour.

Be careful cutting around the gas tank and wear safety glasses!

    top stuff!

dunno why it wasn't there in the first place!

I asked and was told they tend not to be waterproof....though I don't tend to agree as I've seen them top mounted on other machines.

Glad my new j.d has theirs on the control panel lol. :cool2:

Since no one else is posting... Do you have pics of the 997? Did the dealer put the 7 iron deck on it?

    Thanks.

I will get you a picture of my Z Master hour meter. The hour meter is where you put it. My Z is new, just got last week. Here is a picture of the machine. If you can notice the controls on the left side, the hour meter is next to the red throttle handle.

You have a small frame Z, Right? Like a Z450 or something like that? They put those hour meters on the dash and I believe the large frame Z's (Z500's) still have it so you have to raise the seat to see it.

Yup. You have a small frame Z. The large frame Z's have the hour meter next to the seat.

Yes it is a 450. I went with the small frame as 99% of my work is residential.

You got lucky with the wiring harness being long enough to move it there. Cool deal :)
