I'm seeing some thing's that say not to use stone dust or sand as a final base layer for paver's. Other's that say yes. Some that say to compact a layer of fines to eliminate settling into the crusher and some that say to use it as your loose setting layer only.

a typical cross section of my pavers looks something like this:

i don't use screenings anywhere. i use concrete sand (layer 2) as the setting bed for my block.

3/4" Minus isn't easy to come by here so I use readily available 1.5" Minus (NYS DOT #2 Stone). Unfortunately it's really too boney to screed and/or achieve final base tolerance, so I screed 5/8" Minus (NYS DOT #1 Stone) as my final lift.

here's a photo i've posted before of the stone layers going down:

not regularly, no. i've done it both ways. the only benefit of doing so is it, in theory at least, allows you to walk on your bedding sand without compacting it under foot. realistically though i find little benefit and the downside is you spend all that extra time on compacting and playing with sand.

That is real geotextile if you have being using something that looks much thinner that that most likely is weed barrier fabric.

it is weed fabric but the company that makes it which HD carries is in a "patio/driveway seperation fabric" bag. Says nothing about weed's but yes, it's the same stuff. I have it on a job right now. May or may not use it...

I'd be cautious of stuff from HD. I use Mirafi 500xt that I get from from a local construction supply house. Your paver dealer should carry it or know who does.
