topsoil question

    i just got a call from a guy who took down his pool and wants the sand removed and add topsoilthe area.the question is if i grade the sand real fine isnt the sand good drainage for the soil.this is what ive read in every landscaping book.thanks for any info ronnie leave the sand or remove it

    If you put a soil that has fine particles (silt, clay) over sand it isolates that soil. It will not draw water up from below or give up water to the sand until it is saturated. You want the soil over this area to behave like the soil around it or the grass will look diferent.
    Put 2" of loam over 2" of sand and water it. Until that loam is saturated completely, you will have mud over dry sand.
