I am possibly getting a Toro 724z with a 60" deck from a relative of mine. I have not been able to look it over yet so I am only going by what I was told. I am looking for info on replacement hydros. From what I understand on this machine one was replaced, but it was replaced with one the spins the opposite direction of what it should. So when you're mowing straight one lever is pulled to you the other away. Is it possible to put two hydros on with the same rotation?
Secondly, it looks as though the market for replacements is pretty slim and what is out there can be pricey. I believe the two hydros used on this machine are Eaton 700-022 and 700-023, and I have found some for sale on eBay for $800 each. Now I was looking through a site and I found a peerless transmission that works on Toro with the same replacement part number. Here is the link. http://www.russopower.com/products/peerless-5-speed-transmission-700-023-oem-replacement/
Is this the correct part? It's considerably less which makes me assume it's not what I am looking for.
Thanks for any help hope to get the mower home soon so I can get working on it. BTW I am getting it for free so even though it's not the most ideal zero turn out there I don't mind putting a couple of bucks into it. Posted via Mobile Device
Who does work like that????????????????????????????
Just reading this post, let me give you a bit of advice from someone who has been at the dealer level for a very long time. Leave this one alone. Free is still too much. Anyone who would have made a repair like that should not be allowed to own tools and who knows what other "innovative " repairs were done.
The unit wasn't that great to begin with.

I definitely understand where your coming from but from what I was told it was less 'innovative' repair more sold the wrong part. That's why I am curious if it's even possible to put two hydros with the same rotation on both sides.
I own a business with a significant amount of yard that I currently mow with a standard homeowners riding lawnmower and I know this machine would cut down the time significantly. I am not worried about it being a sub par machine. If I can have a functioning zero turn for $5-800, that will see maybe 30-40 hours of use per year, it's well worth the time I will save that's better spent running my business versus mowing. Look, that peerless link is for a manual gearbox, has nothin' to do with yer unit.
You may be able to change the internals on the wrong way hydro, to get it turnin, in the right direction, dunno.
As was mentioned, ya ain't gettin' much, but it's your money.
Ya might wanna pay close attention to this : http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=144040
You can change the rotation of that model Eaton Hydro very easily.
1- remove hydro from mower
2- remove two bolts on the back of the hydro as shown in the photo but DO NOT allow halves to split apart.
3- rotate the back half of hydro 180 degrees while holding the front half of the hydro stationary. Reinstall torx bolts and torque to 15 ft lbs.
4-reinstall hydro back in mower

Thank you for the help it's much appreciated. Supposed to have a warm up next week so I can hopefully get the mower home and try this out. Posted via Mobile Device
