Toro z master help

    Just a few drops of oil on the output shaft where the drive gear is and on the end at the bushing.

    Lay the starter on the floor next to the mower so you can see the gear and use jumper cables from the new mower battery.

    Hook the neg to the nose cone where the mounting holes are, Hook the pos to the large post on the solenoid. Put you foot on top of the starter to keep it from jumping then put a screwdriver across the pos post to the small flat spade connector on the end of the solenoid.

    Each time you touch the pos cable to the spade the starter should kick the gear up and spin it if it's working properly.

    Restrorob i checked the starter today and it was turning over just fine. and i changed the spark plug also.is there a solenoid on the motor that i cannot see..

    No, There's no other solenoid.

    We're gonna have to break out that new multimeter and do some testing....

    When you took the big red battery cable off the starter solenoid there should have been a smaller red wire on there with it. Put a screw and nut through this big cable eyelet and the smaller wire eyelet and screw them together. Make sure they don't touch the frame anywhere and hook the battery back up.

    Now, Put your meter on the DC volts scale. Put the red test lead on the small spade wire you unplugged from the solenoid, Put the black test lead to any frame ground. Now turn the key to the start position and hold it long enough to read the voltage on the meter, Post the voltage reading then we'll see where we need to go next.

    Restrorob when i hooked up the multimeter to the wire i was getting 12 volts to it.

    OK Mike,

    Did you clean and oil the starter ? If so Lets go ahead and put it back on the unit and see what it does.

    Btw, What's the voltage reading in this new battery ?

    Restrorob i cleaned and oiled the starter and put it back on the machine. And the meter reading on the new battery is 10.9 volts. but i am etting a clicking sound now when i turn the key and it got a little louder when i moved the levers into the neutral position.

    You should have 12.5 volts in the new battery, Put your charger on it (properly lol) and let it charge at 10 amps for about 3 hrs. Un-hook the charger and let it sit about forty-five minutes then put your meter back on it. If it still has less than 12.25 volts take it back and get another new one, Take your meter with you so you can test it before leaving the store.

    10.9 is not enough to kick the starter in properly.....

    Restrorob i hooked up the battery charger to the battery.'The Correct way"
    and i charged it for about in a hour and got 12.9 volts to it. I went to start the machine and i get nothing. So i took the battery out of another mower and got the same results and now i dont even get a click from under the dash.

    Mike, This thing is :hammerhead: me !

    OK, Do this.... Take your monitor out to the machine, Get it close enough so I can stick my arm through and fix this dang thing.... ;)


    All jokes aside, If all you did is charge the battery then install another and get nothing now there has got to be a bad connection someplace.

    Un-plug the ignition switch and check the "B" post for rust-corrosion or any dark/burnt areas on the switch back, Also look at the connector plug checking for any signs of heat-melting-rust or corrosion. Remove all the fuses and check for rust-corrosion in the holders as well as the relays......

    Restrorob i checked and cleaned all the fuses and cleaned the ignition switch.I also checked the battery and got 12.57 volts on the meter. when i turned the switch i was getting a clicking sound from the dash. i did this about 5 times and i had my ear basically inside the dash trying to find the source of the clicking. But when i raised the seat the clicking noise went away. So i pulled all of the relays and they all had this whte stuff on it so i totally cleaned those up but i got no clicking sound again. i am getting frustrated with this because i have been trying to use this machine for aqlmost 4 months now and i cant bring it to a dealer cause there i sno toro dealer aound.
