I am getting ready to buy a Toro Z440 52" with 19hp Kaw. I decided against the Scag Tiger Cub because only one dealer in town has parts for or works on them...and that dealer sucks! Not alot of info in the archives on Toro Z's...so any of you with experience with them, please let me know.

    Lawnprostevo,

You might ask some of the more experienced LCOs if 19 HP is enough for 52".

Will be trading my eXmark Z HP 52" 23hp Kawasaki for the new Toro Z450 PRO.. In my estimation the few additional dollars are well spent on the larger engine and heavy duty canister air filter and I will be taking my seat suspension kit off the X and putting it on the Toro as well as having the dealer install a fuel shutoff on the center panel.

I've always had good luck with my Z Master.

my Z master is great, it's got about 500 hours on it , and the engine is great I run a 20 Kohler 52'' deck . I don't think getting a bigger engine would be a bad idea , I think my size is fine for the 30 or so lawns that I do , but for any more I would like a little bit more pony's behind the seat! good luck!

More power! 19hp is what I need on my 52" walk behind! It has 17 and is not enough at times, and thats only at 5.5/6 mph. When you go to 10mph, don't you think you'll want 23hp?
Have 23hp Kaw on my 52" Z, its got enough power for anything until you put the deck driven bagger on, then it lugs down sometimes, mostly in real thick tall grass and on hills. On hills, it will drop a lot of RPM's, not good at all. If I could I would have got a 27hp on the machine but that wasn't an option. 23 is good, don't go less than 21 and no less than 23 if you plan to add a deck driven bagger.
