Was curious how much N everyone applies in their program. I have mine set up at a total of 3.25 for the year. That is on the high side for where i'm at, according to rutgers. So, i might even do 2.75 - 3 lbs.

    We have three programs:
    Bay wise = 2lbs. N
    Weed & feed = 3.25lbs, N
    Standard Ccare = 4.25 lbs. N

    1lb/K/yr for the centipede
4lb/K/yr for the St. Augustine--stuff is a Nitrogen hog.

High much N you use all depends on what part of the country you are in and the type of fertilizer you use, slow release or straight urea or ammonium nitrate. I feel another part of the question should be as when you apply that N. In my state which is all northern cool season turf the state recommends 3 to 4 lbs a year with the caveat being that you should use 3 lbs if you return the clippings. Another caveat is that if the lawn is more than 15 years old you can reduce the N by another 1/2 lb due to the microbial action on the organic matter that has been built up over the years.
90% of the lawns I take care of get 3 lbs a year with 2/3 of it being in the fall. The rest get 2 lbs a year and look fine.

Shades, several land grant universities in our zone suggest up to 4 or 5 lbs of actual N per 1000 sq ft per year for high maintenance lawns depending upon soil type, turf type, sun exposure, etc.

Here's what rutgers recomended to me, again, for my area.

1.irrigated lawns that clippings are removed 2.5 + lbs. N per year

    2.irrigate and don't remove clippings 2 +lbs. per year

3.non irrigated and don"t remove clippings 1.5 + lbs. per year

*Apply no more than 1# per K per feeding unless using 50% WIN

    * at least 30%-60% of fertilizer should be of the WIN type.
