I want to ask if anyone has registered there trailer in another state. I know it can be done, I was wondering has anyone had problems with DOT or local law enforcement because of it. I live in NY and have enough issues with DOT don't want to shoot myself in the foot so to say. Also if any body does register in another stat please share, I was looking at Maine Thanks

I got my balls busted just because my first trailer didn't have
commercial plates but the second truck I had pulling her did. So I'll answer to your question are you going to draw some attention that may end up getting you pulled over driving a NY truck towing a Maine trailer in NY yes I think that's a good bet. Your trying to avoid property taxes on the trailer, NY has them and Maine doesn't I don't think its worth the effort perhaps on your boat or your plane or a brand new truck or sports car but a trailer why bother.

I run maine tags on all my trailers its $88 dollars for 5 year tags its a considerable amount less than ny or md tags. not to mention the price of tax and title fees, and inspection. in maine they do not require inspections. my father lives in orange county ny not far from you and he is going to switch his tags on the trailers he rarely uses but not on his enclosed mowing trailer or dump trailer the ones he uses on a daily basis due to dot attention
