Does anybody out there know how to figure out what the tongue weight is on a trailer - depending on the weight of what you're hauling on it? I'm planning on making some mods. to my trailer.

Find a truck stop or go to a business that has semi trailers, they usually have scales and ask if you can weigh the trailer. Drive the truck up just far enough to set the jack on the scale, drive the truck off the scale and weigh it. Thats about the easiest.

  3. Place the tongue jack on a bathroom scale.

What stone said,if your trailer has over 300lb tongue weight, put the scale on one end of a 2-3 ft long 2x8,then a brick on the other end,set the tongue jack dead center on the 2x8,this will give you up to 600 lbs on a 300 lb scale, just double the scale reading to get your true weight, good luck. You probably already know, but in case you dont,10% is about what you want on most trailers, the exceptions are 5 th wheels, which are 15-20% ,and long boat trailers, which can go as low as 5-7% tongue weight and still tow great.
