I'm looking ahead to buy a trailer. Does the trailer need a "dovetail" to load mowers? I'm looking at a 52in W/B or 48 or 52in Exmark Lazer. Will the mower decks clear without the dovetail? THANKS for any input?

i have a 52" exmark hydro, i use a dovetail trailer, but from the looks of my mower it should have enough clearence for a flat trailer, depending on the length of the gate.

I just sold my 14' without a dovetail. All my mowers went up it fine. Occasionally if the angle was to steep I would just rare it up just a bit with the handlebars to keep it from hitting.

The one I have now is an 18' with a dovetail. It does make it easier. My back gate is smaller also.

The answer is: NO you do not need it, but it is great if you do.
