hey guys I need some help as i have come up empty. My friend had her 96 Ford Explorer 4.0 v6 no overdrive ripped off.Well she got it back but the tranny will not come out of drive.I have checked all the links and wires going to the tranny and nothing seems messed up.What should i do now? Thanks for any help or tips you can offer me on this.

when you say "won't come out of drive" what do you mean? is the shifter not moving? does the shifter move but only stays in drive. i would say if the shifter is moving then the linkage has come off somewhere. If the shifter is not moving then you may have a jambed linkage or a very bad neutral safety switch.

Ok the linkage it hooked up and the shifter moves freely.I think its inside the tranny but i would hate to have to do a tear down on it.

it's easy to remove the tranny pan and take a look. i don't believe it will need a complete rebuild. it could be the connection between the shifter cam and spool valve. just take a look.
