Hello, all I have a problem with my weeping willow I think it may be Borores but not sure There are dead branches through out the tree and on one side of the trunk of it there is a crck in the bark with some small holes in it and if you tap on the bark you can tell it is howlow under there. I was going to get this insecticide from a local store that says it kills all kinds of borores but did not get it because I am not sure that is what it is. Can any of you help on this? Thanks a lot.

It sounds like bark beetles, could also be borers. Either way you need the help of a good arborist. The arborist should be able to tell you the type of pest, extent of the damage, and the best method to treat the tree.

I have found the most effective method of treating wood boring insects on large to mid size trees to be micro-injection. Most of your off the shelf pesticides are generally designed to prevent infestation and will have little effect on beetles or borers which can take shelter behind bark or previously damaged wood.

    Good Luck,

Contact your county extension agent. Here in Charlotte, NC, we have an urban forestry specialist who can usually answer these type questions over the telephone, but he has come out to look at some tree problems for me. The cost, 0.00. This is a valuable resource, and will probably get you the answers that you are seeking.
Good luck and take care. Bill Craig
