Can someone give me an idea on what to charge for trenching? The Trench needs to be 18 in deep, 1 in wide and about 70 feet long with 3 changes in direction. I will be renting a trencher to do the job, I’m not sure what the rate is for the rental yet. The purpose of the trench is to run electrical lines.

A walk behind trencher may cost you 125.00 per day

    Trenching 70 feet at 8.00 per ft.= 560.00

    125.00 Rental
    560.00 Labor
    685.00 Total

    Good Luck

At that depth you may want to consider using a vibratory plow since you are not going that deep. It will also lessen the amount of restoration that needs to be done after the fact.

If you trench it, factor in your time for backfilling as well. $8.00 per foot seems a bit steep when you consider that people are trenching in and installing irrigation zones for less than that.

I had a neighbor ask me about doing a trenching job for him, but I passed it up because this fellow lives on a rock shelf. In such a case, charging by the foot could ruin you.
