we run 105 stihl X line in everything. we went through a 2,5 pound spool last season. couldn't find a 5 pound spool when I was looking to buy the new one.

This past fall i tried some Vortex .130 with a fixed line head on a FS 130. It would tear through the overgrowth on ditch banks but didn't do well on maintained properties.

That's about right on a fixed (no feed) head. No one around here uses an edger unless they're doing an apartment complex with a mile of edging.

That's where our edger gets used the most also.

In my old Redmax I found .095 to perform detailed trimming better than .105. I even prefer the way thinner line edges...though, some real fibrous overgrowth would best be served by thicker line. My current Stihl FS-80 doesn't accept .105 w/o some modifying...and with more power than my old RM I'd expect it to be a beast.

A FS-80 isn't big enough to run 105 that's why it won't accept it, I really don't think my FS-90's are honestly, but I'll run it in them anyway.

.105 in the Stihl FS-90R and the Echo SRM-2601. .130 in the SRM-3100 w/ the fixed line head. Don't want to get too crazy with the trigger on that thing :nono:

.095 spins faster, but is not durable as a larger size, but gives a cleaner cut.

What brand(s) of trimmer do you have and what brand fixed line head?
