Is there a technique to trimming around pop up sprinkler heads with a weedeater that does'nt leave a huge round divot. My clients with zoysia have me do this so the heads will not get stuck but the hole it leaves is huge and that can't be good for the grass long term. Any thoughts?

Call a company that has an irrigation license to come and repair the system.
Properly installed, a retractable, gear driven rotating head requires no trimming - they are designed to "disappear" from view.
Unless you are referring to the impact type heads - then I would change them out to a gear driven rotor.

Actually if they have the concrete rings around their heads you can get a tool and cut the rings by hand or get one to put on your weedeater and go around them. Another method is to spray a little RoundUp on top of the heads and this will keep them clear. I only use this method when I have 5 or 6 hundred to do in one place.
