Is it to late in the season to trimm mums or holly? Thanks
Mums are dormant at this point, they can be cut down to the ground for the winter. Hollys can be pruned now also, pruning now will push growth right below the cuts in the spring.
"pruning now will push growth right below the cuts in the spring."
What are you saying? Sorry I don't understand.
I believe he was saying that prunning the Hollies will encourage inner growth - below the branching where you pruned (the cuts) - once they start growing again in Spring. I wouldn't do any heavy (renewal) pruning until March in the case of something that needs to be cut way back.
Where I live you prune holly in the spring and right now it's berries....
