What kind of Fertilizer do you use when seeding new lawns? I have been using a pro start 18-24-10. I was thinking of using a 19-19-19 to save some money, and I can sell an application of fertilzer to them a few weeks later!
    WHat do you guys use?

I wouldn't try selling a second app a few weeks later....You will end up paying the price for that kind of service.

    use 18-24-12 or comparable.

Triple 19 isnot a slow release like your starter fert and has not been recommended or has worked as well for me in the past. Stay with starter fert.

I my area "tripple 19" is used as an Agricultural fertilizer for farming. Its water saluable so it desaulves fast giving a quick shot for rappid growth. I have used tripple 10 for a starter fert with good results for a fast start and then applied a slow release fert a few weeks later for a steady growth.

I talked to another landscaper today and he told me the exact same thing you are saying....He uses a 12-12-12 when seeding then, time released fert on right after the first mowing. The quick shot of nitrogen makes the seeds sprout faster and the lawn comes in fuller, I think I'm going to experiment alittle. The builder doesnt care as long as the grass comes up!

Triple 19 is excellant to use on new construction lawns that don't grow at all. I put some on a friend of mines that was this way and he was mowing twice a week for close to two months. He didn't care about the mowing but he was sure glad to get the grass growing and thick.
