    debating between turf-vent 40" and the turf-aire 36"

for my 318 john deere. i will need to purchase and mount the 3 point yet, i feel 3 point is the way to go vs. pull behind.

i measured the width of the jd and it was 41" across the back tires. i'd like to stay within this so if i take off the mower deck i can fit inside the 4 foot gates.

the turf-vent is $600 the turf-aire is $450 i'm not sure what shipping is yet but i'm sure the turf-aire is a lot to ship because it's 360lbs.

    which would you go with?

I think I would go with the Turf Vent. Its the closest to the same width as your 318. Lining up when you make your pass it would be pretty easy to do.

True. 4 inches shorter, 2 on each side assuming everything is a straight line. To get good coverage with the 36" you would be driving over what you have already aerated... Don't know if its that bid a deal, but if I didn't have to drive over what I already worked I would be happier with the finished product.

don't you normally Chris cross anyway?

the turf aire also has a larger core 3/4 vs 5/8

True. I guess I really wouldn't be concerned about 1/8 of a inch

Uh, at that size, 1/8 of an inch is 20% larger. I can't imagine trying to work with 5/8" tines. It would seem to me that if 3/4 tines plug, 5/8 would plug up worse.

    prices with shipping:

    turf-aire 36" .......$709
    turf-vent 40".......$646
3 point hitch on ebay is going for around $400

so i'd have about $1100 into this

the turf-aire has a 25" width for the 3 point. i wonder if the 3 point on the 318 can go this wide?

    the turf-aire 36"has 6 rows 8 tines each for a total of 48 plugs
the turf vent 40" has 10 rows 4 tines each for a total of 40 plugs
