Thought I'd share some pics of what we normally run into when a gopher has gotten valve wiring.
Do the gophers fill up the valve boxes with soil?
We get the same thing here. But they are mainly caused by voles. Repaired two systems that had the wires chewed thru this year. And I find many boxes filled this same way by them.
Post a pic of a Vole. Sounds like a Vulcan's wife.
Sweet little critter
Yup, have the same problem here. Entire boxes filled up with soil.
I dig it out and fill it back up with broken glass.
the culprits around here are ground moles, usually corrected by adding pea stone to the box, they don't like digging in the stone
Yup... We use our "archeological tool" (heavy duty garden trowel/shovel) to excavate the boxes out so we can see exactly what the problem is and leave the wiring undisturbed until then.
Never seen a pea gravel filled box I like (freakin' LA's). Our gophers eat it and then pass it out their azzes. I'd rather put up with the occasional box like in the pics than having to dig through pea gravel to make repairs.
