Depending on service or effort levels, "reasonable" can be any number of dollar amounts. It could be a fixed fee, covering a certain amount of time and effort. It could be based on an ongoing effort, with you paying an open-ended, monthly retainer. So, reasonable could be a couple of thousand, fixed, or a few/several hundred a month, on a an ongoing basis. It could also be a mix of fixed and then ongoing.

With that as a rough idea, and since you have a person in mind, what are they going to charge you and what does that get you? Might be easier to approach it from that angle.

In the SEO world, that's what is usually referred to as a "lowballer". ;)

yes, but the way it works is anyone who charges way below market in the landscape industry is lowballer scum. Anyone who charges way below market for marketing/promotion is a god. Well, until they take the dinero and run.

I have talked to one that does the monthly retainer route and comes very highly recommended. He would be doing seo, Google analytics, and minor web alterations for 1000 monthly for a minimum of 4 months.

If there is an industry where you want to be hyper-weary of cold callers, it's online marketing. The good ones don't have to make a cold contact. They should be swimming in referral or inbound work.
