Hey guys I've only been installing for about 2 1/2 yrs. now and I always install a manifold. But recently I've been geting service calls on existing systems where installers placed valves all over the yard. Some under mulch or under a lot of plant growth. I've heard about valve locators but don't know much about it, where do I get one and what should I look for in one.

Hat you need is a Progressive 521. Its ment mainly for irrigation and easy to use. Look on Ebay, you wil always find one for alot less than new. I bought mine for 400.00 ( New they go for close to 800.00)

An electrical supply house that carries Tempo or Progressive brand equipment. Ask for the 521 Valve Locator

I have a Progressive 528 Wire & Valve Locater for sale if you are interested, just e-mail me. It's a smaller version of the 521, and it works great. Have another on the way and I don't need two.

Keep checking ebay... I bought one three years ago for $220.00 and that damn thing just keeps finding them valves. Most times they go for $350 - $500.

If you do buy one check it out. If it needs service Progressive will refurbish it for around $100.00.

Dang it Jerry, quit telling everyone about ebay. Now I'll never find one for a reasonable price. J/K

Here is a source that also carry the 521

Last week I attended a seminar on Wire and Valve Locating by Progressive/Tempo at the John Deere Landscapes seminars. I highly recommend attending if it comes to your area. As they say these instruments work 80% on skill and 20% on science. The more you know about these wonderful inventions the moreyou will utilize them. I learned alot more than I knew the thing could do.

The other thing that inspired me to learn more on using the various instruments that they make was that some guys out thear are getting heavy profits
