Just bought two brand new Scag TTs - both running Velocity decks. Whenever these machines back up over uncut grass it just winrows it where the deck went - instead of discharging it. I'm pretty sure I didn't have this problem with the Advantage decks. Am I the only one or what's wrong with these decks? Thanks.

(I'm a homeowner but I got a lot of grass...) I have a 2001 TT with the Advantage deck and a 2009 with the Velocity and I have the same thing happen you do. Freaked me out at first but I read on here that the Velocity decks just do that. You can't really mow in reverse because of this. It's the way the baffles are set up.

I thought the Velocity decks were supposed to be better than the Advantage decks. I have a 36" walk-behind with the Advantage deck and it cuts just as good in reverse as it does going forward.

Since I don't have occasion to mow in reverse much (and the new machine cut the time down so much, going back and forward again or turning around doesn't bother me) this change doesn't bother me. Especially since I think the forward cut of my newer machine is way better in thicker, heavy grass - which is mostly what I have - than my older machine with the Advantage deck, and I thought that kicked A$$. Plus, I only get to mow every 10 days or so and I can blow right through high, heavy grass and have no issues on the new machine.

Velocity decks leave clumps of grass in reverse. They were not designed to cut in reverse. Most of us are well aware of this but the forward cutting more than makes up for this minor inconvenience. There is a lot of room in front of the blades to let the grass stand up before cutting. As a result it collects in this area when in reverse. Nothing you can do about it that I know of.

No you wouldn't have had this problem with the Advantage deck because there is not the open space in front of the blades and baffle.

What is it with you homeowners who can't stay the F out of the chief's offices!

Is it some kind of identity issue you fellows just feel the need to be a part of something?
Because what it is, find yourselves because you're not one of us... You don't run a business,
you don't know how, so don't act like you know how it works or how it is!

You folks wanting to read is one thing, can't really stop that and I don't entirely have a problem with the openness
but when you folks want to start interjecting that's when I've had enough.

Now I hope you ain't that same guy with the 100 acres or what it was because I'm fixing
to really let go on someone here, now that's the last edited "down" warning I give.

I'm not "acting like" anything. I clearly stated what the deal was but excuse me for having the same equipment you guys do and possibly having something intelligent to say. Didn't realize that having a company name stamped on a truck made the machine perform differently when your LCO a$$ sits on it. At no point have I made any posts assuming I know how to run a lawn care business or how you should run yours. If you want to talk about who's acting like what, you're acting like a jacka$$. Instead of getting your panties in a bunch, why don't you just skip the posts you don't want to read. Cripes.

don't worry about top sites, he ran out of viagra. I don't think he even owns a z turn scag, so why would he even care what was said on this posting. He just does this to get a lot of response so he can run up his post numbers. You can post here any time you want. Thanks for the input. I'm sure it will be useful to some one.

Yep, seems to be a universal issue with the Velocity+ decks. My 48" does the same thing, it cuts fine in reverse but like others said, the clippings dont discharge, they just fall to the ground in clumps. Very strange but Tacomas reasoning sounds plausible.

This is not a big problem for normal growth, but I wonder how it would be affected reversing over really tall thick grass. Other than noticing it, I have yet to have it cause any problem in real cutting conditions-- I normally only reverse for maneuvering into corners, tight spaces etc., and when doing that the clippings get sucked right back up and discharged, leaving a clean cut.

I could only see it being a real problem if you do a lot of cutting in reverse for some odd reason. (!)
