I asked a local dealer here the same ? and he said for northern Florida the advantage was better.

I'm very impressed with the Velocity because it has the widest dispersion I've seen, cut is very good even with weeds, dandelions, mixed in. It has yet to clump and I've mowed some thick nasty grass. Not much sticks to the deck as of yet. The only downside I've seen so far is large clippings but that's better than clumps. Great design, great deck, not the smoothest out there in perfect conditions but a great all around performer. I'll take the versatility over the perfect smooth cut any day. Don't get me wrong the cut is great but there are a few decks that are smoother but they can't compete with this deck in damp, overgrown, conditions. I would be scraping my Ultracut after some of the lawns this thing has been through even though the Ultracut may have been a little smoother. Can't go wrong.

The only real downfall to the velocity deck over the advantage is that you can't mow in reverse (it leaves a trail of cut grass). If this doesn't affect you then you can't go wrong with it.

Well its a $1500-2000 difference from if i buy a 2006 verse a brand new model. So thats why i want to know if it would justify to spend the extra 2 grand for the better deck. The model is a 2006 scag TT with the 29 DFI 61" $10,500 with zero hrs. thanks for the much needed help

2006 should have the new Velocity deck. Make sure your looking at the right year mower. They told me mine was a 06 but it didn't have the adjustable handles, digital tach, and a few other items. Come to find out (by contacting Scag with the serial #) they had just put an 06 Velocity deck on an 05 so look in the catalog and make sure they match up or contact Scag. The 06 definitely listed the Velocity on all but the 72". You should be able to get an 07 for that money.
