    Basically, I am tapped out.
What are the absolute bare minimums needed to get started?
Best way to get word out?
I want to start by simply mowing first. I'll reinvest and expand into more after I get going.

    Thanks.

Alot of guys have started with a 21" mower, a string trimmer, and a broom. A little ambition can go a long way. Just work hard to improve your assets everyday, and it will come. Go legit as soon as possible.

Putting out door hangers and flyers is a good start, and it's not very expensive. However, word of mouth is probably going to be your best advertisement.

$5-10k to get going.....do it right, or don't do it at all

Check out what your city/state requires to run a business.

Get insurance to cover yourself when your mower throws a rock into your customers window.

Start out with the minimum equipment, then add as you need it. See if you really like this business before you invest big bucks.

Demo equipment at lawn equipment dealers before you buy.

Check out deals like the one at Home Depot- 6 months interest free on their credit card. (example- Buy a mower, trimmer, blower, etc in the spring for $1200. Save AT LEAST $50 each week to pay off this debt, an in your 30 week lawn cutting season, this debt is gone.

Newspaper ads, and door flyers in March in your area should bring in business.

If you have to rent the equip you need. Spend more on advertising. You need customers not equipment.

    Hi derekdoubleut,

How about print out some flyers and hand them out?
