ok around town there was a lot of damage from voulls.

it looks like they made their own cities in the lawn under the snow in the winter time. there are little tunnels everywhere

now people are calling wanting to know what to do about it.

i have been power raking it and picking up the clipping (dead grass).

    question:
if you leave the dead grass will it fill in on it's own or should i continue to rake it up? and possibly overseed?????????????

Rake it up and leave it or overseed. the grass will come back but will take a lil while. They are a major menace out here. I have been told that you can spray castor oil where you know they are at because they do not like the taste of it. Have not tried it yet. I use Shake Away around the houses and gardens and it does help. they run in a 5 year cycle which means that every 5 years they hit a peak. When we have them where we live, I use plain snap mouse traps because I can check them evryday. I have also been told that if you use sulphur in on the lawn before winter it keeps them from eating all the grass.

Do a search for Voles, pretty interesting reading.

Castor oil does work as a replellent for 2-3 weeks. Use enough water to move it down into the soil where the moles are feeding. There is a fairly new bait poison called Taliprid that you place in an active tunnel.
Rolling the tunnels will improve the appearance of the lawn. It will also prevent the turf from drying out by eliminating all of those macro pore spaces (tunnels)
